There’s no doubt about it: The Vitamix 5200 series of blenders are true workhorses. Built to last with pitchers made of a very sturdy and durable BPA free copolyester (much stronger than plastic) on a sturdy base, these blenders will serve your super healthy lifestyle for a long time to come. They are simple machines with very few parts, making them not only easy to use but also easy to maintain. The older models like the 5000 were not BPA free, so this is definitely a step up.

How does it compare vs Ninja blenders?
While these machines may appear to be quite similar, there are some important differences. First, according to user reviews, the Vitamix tends to heat things up just a little bit if you leave it going for a couple of minutes. This is great if you’re making soups, as it can save you a step.
Second, even though the 64 oz. container isn’t as big versus the XL 72 oz. container of the Ninja Ultima or Professional Blenders. While it’s nice to have a larger size container for some jobs, the 64 oz. one will actually fit under your upper kitchen cabinets easier than the larger pitcher. If you want one even shorter, the Vitamix 750 also has a 64 oz. pitcher, but it is shorter and wider.
Another difference is in the choice of speeds. The Vitamix 5200 series has a 1-10 power selection with both variable and high speeds. The Ninja Mega Kitchen system blenders and Ninja Professional units have 3 speeds plus a Pulse function. The Ninja Ultima blender is most similar with speeds 1-10 plus a Pulse function.
One final difference is in regard to the blade system. The Ninja line all have removable blades, while this unit has a fixed blade system, meaning you cannot remove it for washing, etc.
In one user review from someone who has owned both a Ninja and this model, she said the Vitamix definitely makes a finer grind when making soups, smoothies and dressings.
On the other hand, the Ninja blenders are cheap in comparison, so these things may not matter so much to you if you’re on a tight budget. If budget is truly a factor, you won’t go wrong buying the Ninja, however, if you can afford it, the Vitamix is a better choice.
Vitamix vs BlendTec
The BlendTec comes with wider blender pitcher, and it has computerized functions. The Vitamix is definitely a simpler machine. With the BlendTec models, you have to first switch on the microprocessor, then hit the power button – then you’re ready to go. In reviews, users say the BlendTec also runs much hotter versus this machine.
Is this a juicer?
While you can use the Vitamix for juicing, it is not a juicer like a machine that is specifically meant for the function of separating the juice from the pulp. Rather, it is one of the best powerful blenders available today. If you want to use it for juice, you can use it to finely grind up all your fruits and vegetables, then strain them in a nut milk bag or with another method.
However, many health experts say it’s actually healthier to drink your juice with the fiber left in, as it slows down the absorption of sugar in any fruits you may use. For this reason, you may want to drink the smooth blend the machine creates without straining at all. It makes one of the best smoothies you’ll ever drink. It pulverizes seeds, cores and anything else you drop in.

What are my options?
The 5200 and 5200s come in a few different packages for different prices. The chart below illustrates what you get with each package. As you can see, the 5200 also comes in a factory reconditioned / refurbished model, which you can get a greatly reduced price (and in 3 colors!)
Vitamix 5200 & 5200s Options - New & Reconditioned
- Brute power
- Very durable and high quality – built to last
- Versatility in what you can make (comes with recipes too)
- 7 year warranty
One of the few complaints about both the standard and deluxe models is that they’re loud. Luckily, the machine is so powerful, you won’t need to keep it running for long – at most a minute, usually much less will get the job done.
The other complaint is in regard to the price. These machines are pretty expensive, even if you have a coupon code or find one on sale.
The Bottom Line in Vitamix 5200 Reviews
In consumer reports, users rate this machine very high. They love the power, long-lasting durability and its plain and simple ability to get any job done. In short, we highly recommend the 5200. However, they are expensive. If you can afford it, buy one. If you can’t, take a look at the Ninja Ultima blender line, as it’s a close second.
Where Can I Get it on Sale?
You can buy your machine directly from the manufacturer. However, we found the absolute best price anywhere at Amazon. Their sale prices are much cheaper than at major retail stores and other outlets online.
